14. Đức vua đã nói rằng: “Thưa ngài Nāgasena, có thể cắt vật hoàn toàn vi tế không?”

“Tâu đại vương, đúng vậy. Có thể cắt vật hoàn toàn vi tế.”

“Thưa ngài, vậy cái gì là hoàn toàn vi tế?”

“Tâu đại vương, pháp là hoàn toàn vi tế. Tâu đại vương, không phải tất cả các pháp đều là vi tế. Tâu đại vương, ‘vi tế’ hay ‘thô cứng,’ điều này là sự diễn tả đối với các pháp. Bất cứ vật gì có thể cắt được thì cắt toàn thể vật ấy bằng tuệ. Không có việc cắt bằng tuệ lần thứ nhì.”

“Thưa ngài Nāgasena, ngài thật khôn khéo.”

14. Rājā āha: bhante nāgasena sakkā sabbasukhumaṃ jinditunti?"
"Āma mahārāja, sakkā sabbāsukhumaṃ chinditunti". 
"Kimpana bhante sabbasukhumanti? Dhammo kho mahārāja sabbasukhumo. Na kho mahārāja dhammā sabbe sukhumā sukhumanti vā thūlanti vā mahārāja dhammānametamadhivacanaṃ. Yaṃ kiñci chinditabbaṃ, sabbaṃ taṃ paññāya chindati. Natthi dutiyaṃ paññāya chedananti". 
"Kallo'si bhante nāgasenā" ti.

Der König sprach "Kann man wohl, ehrwürdiger Nāgasena, das Allersubtilste teilen?"

"Freilich kann man das, o König."

"Was ist nun aber, o Herr, das Allersubtilste?"

"Der Dhamma (Gesetz, Lehre), o König, ist das Allersubtilste. Doch sind nicht etwa alle Dhammas (Erscheinungen, Dinge) subtil; die Dhammas werden entweder als subtil, oder als grob, bezeichnet. Alles aber, was irgendwie teilbar ist, kann nur durch die Weisheit geteilt werden; eine andere Teilung als durch Weisheit gibt es nicht."

"Klug bist du, ehrwürdiger Nāgasena!"

14. “Is it possible to dissect even the most subtle thing?”
“Yes, O king. Wisdom is able to dissect every subtle
thing.”
“What is meant by every subtle thing?”
“Dhamma55 is everything subtle. However, not all
dhammas are subtle, some are coarse. Subtle and coarse are
only concepts. Whatever is divisible can be divided by
wisdom. There is nothing else that can dissect wisdom.”

55. Dhamma here is a technical term meaning phenomenon or state. Elsewhere it also
means truth, law, doctrine.

VI. BAN DICH CUA CAO HUU DINH

60. Trí tuệ soi thấu tất cả.
Vua hỏi:
-- Bạch Ðại đức, người đắc đạo có thể tư duy mà thấu hết được sự vật sâu
kín chăng?
-- Tâu Ðại vương, được. Pháp Phật sâu xa mầu nhiệm phân tích đủ hết mọi
sự, nhưng không thể cân nhắc suy lường được mọi sự. Chỉ có trí tuệ mới làm
được việc đó.
